Who We Are:
The Map Collection, a unit of Government Documents, maintains a collection of over 160,000 maps, comprehensively covering the world with particular emphasis on Hawai'i, Asia and the Pacific.  The Collection includes general reference maps, topographic maps in various scales and a variety of subject maps.

Thousands of maps are acquired annually through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP).  We receive all U.S. Geological Survey standard topographic map series as well as their specialized series, all maps and charts distributed by the  National Imagery and Mapping Agency (formerly the Defense Mapping Agency), nautical and aeronautical charts from the National Ocean Service, and map products from agencies such as the  National Park Service, Forest Service, Bureau of the Census (TIGER) and others.  In addition, we select and purchase maps locally, from the U.S., and many foreign countries.

The Map Collection houses an extensive collection of aerial photographs of Hawai'i, the former Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and parts of Japan.  A large collection of World War II U.S. Navy aerial photographs of the Western Pacific and Southeast Asia brings the total number of photographs to more than 90,000.

 EARTH SCIENCE INFORMATION CENTER (ESIC)

The Map Collection has been designated an Earth Science Information Center affiliate of the U.S. Geological Survey. This service provides users with information on the range of available cartographic products produced by USGS and how to acquire them.

FINDING MATERIALS IN THE MAP COLLECTION
The Map Collection staff will assist users with bibliographic tools. It is recommended that you call ahead to schedule an appointment if your plans involve extensive research.
