| Karaev, Vasilii Gagievich. Born 1891 (?) in a Cossack family in the Cossack village Vladimirsk Tersk oblast. Nationality was Osetian. In March 1914 with a group of seven people he signed a contract to work in Vancouver. He left through Libava (Baltic) and Germany. But in Canada he didn't find work. He came to Hawaii with this wife Nina Grigor'evna (her first married name was Tkachenko; b. 1892). The reason he came to Hawaii "He heard that life here was better." (said to Trautshold) Two years he worked in dry docks, after that as a carpenter for another company ($3.25 day). |
