Electrical Engineering
LIBRARY COLLECTION POLICY STATEMENTS
I. PROGRAM INFORMATION
As an instructional unit of the College of Engineering, the Electrical Engineering Department provides education in electrical engineering with a proper balance between undergraduate and graduate instruction, and research and development that will impact the state's development of high technology and encourage entrepreneurial activities. The department is committed to providing a broad science-based education in the fundamental principles of electrical engineering and a solid foundation in electrical, electronic, and computer systems. Because of the constant technological changes in electrical engineering, great emphasis is placed on updating and improving the curriculum to meet the needs of industry and to provide a timely and relevant program. The department offers the BS, MS (Plan A, thesis only), and PhD degrees
Faculty and graduate student research interests include telecommunication and networks, signal processing, computer architecture, computer-vision and robotics, artificial intelligence, sensing and measurement technology including solid state and sensor devices, neural networks, communication, computer engineering, physical electronics and sensors, microwave and optics, computer-aided IC design, and VLSI circuit design.
II. COORDINATION OF COLLECTING RESPONSIBILITIES
The discipline shares resources with other engineering fields and computer science. The interdisciplinary doctoral program in Communication and Information Science requires coordination between selectors for Information and Computer Science, Communication, Electrical Engineering, and the Library and Information Science Program.
The department uses the Reserve Book Room and the computer-based learning materials available in CLIC.

III. GUIDELINES TO MATERIALS COLLECTED OR EXCLUDED
Language: English is preferred. The collection contains some material in Western European and Slavic languages. Asian language material is housed in both the Science and Technology area and the Asia Collection.
Chronological: No limitations, but the emphasis is on current theories and research.
Geographic: No limitations.
Date of Publication: Current materials are emphasized; gaps are filled as needed; rare and historical materials may be acquired as gifts.
Types/Formats of Materials Collected: Monographs on current research in the field; upper level texts; government publications; conference proceedings; selected United States and foreign dissertations; print and electronic indexes, abstracts, and bibliographies; handbooks and dictionaries. Excluded are manuscripts, reprints of articles within serials, house organs, and private and company files.
Treatment: Historical; primary sources and documents; applications, practices, and methods; computer-related; equipment used in; biographical; reference and bibliographical; statistical and mathematical; textbooks; professional and applied training; and reports on scientific experimental results.
