The Reading Room is staffed by a graduate assistant and student volunteers
from both departments. It is usually open Monday-Friday from 10:00 to 4:00.
The collection consists of English as a Second Language (ESL) and linguistics
books, journals, old student papers, and theses. Most ESL books are located
on the row of shelves facing the inside of the room. The ESL journals are
located along the wall directly next to the copy machine. Some ESL student
papers and theses are located in the cabinets behind the monitor's desk,
and some are on the shelves. The shelves along the walls contain
linguistics books and journals.
Anyone may access the collection, but photocopying is restricted to members
of the Linguistics Society of Hawaii or the Hawaii Association of Teachers
of English as a Second Language (HATESL). Material may not be taken out of
the room at any time. Only faculty members in Linguistics and SLS may borrow
material. Backpacks and other books are not allowed in the room beyond the
copy machine/entrance area.

The IRC seeks to promote understanding of industrial relations and human resources development problems, techniques, and policies. Organized to facilitate University research and instruction in the disciplines and professions related to industrial relations, the center also serves labor, management, and the community as the link in a continuing dialogue, reporting on changes in the field. The center maintains a library for information services and current publications; provides reference service; conducts conferences, lectures, and group discussions; and assists in the training of students and practitioners in the field. Research studies in industrial relations problems are conducted and published by the center.
The IRC is open to the public every weekday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00p.m. It has a study area, browsing shelves, and offers copying service at a nominal charge.
