Policy On Services For Visitors
University Of Hawai'i At Manoa Libraries
The Libraries of University of Hawai'i at Manoa welcome visitors
who are not affiliated with the University of Hawai'i. We are proud to be able
to provide the Hawai'i community with access to this major academic research
library. In addition, for a reasonable fee, community members also may enjoy borrowing privileges.
Access services available to community users and visitors:
- Assistance in locating appropriate collections and services
- Access to selected library resources and collections on a self-help basis
- (Note: UHM has entered into license agreements with the producers of various copyrighted
databases. Many of these agreements limit use of the database services to University faculty,
students, staff and users on the library premises.)
- Assistance with using the online catalog
- Brief answers to reference questions. For questions that require extensive
research, please contact the Library External Services Program.
- Basic assistance to persons with disabilities
- Limited telephone assistance
- Exceptions to the above will be made for users accessing official U.S. government information available through the Federal Depository Library Program.
Borrowing privileges available to community users and visitors:
While the UHM Libraries provide reasonable access to the collections
within the Libraries for all users, there is a distinction between
access and borrowing privileges. Borrowing privileges for non-UH affiliated users,
age 18 and over, are provided through purchase of a UH Library Community Borrower Card
or Associates Card. Click here for
details. With a Community Borrower Card, visitors may
- Borrow media at Sinclair Library Wong Audiovisual Center for in-house viewing.
For an additional per-item fee, media items may be taken out of the library for home viewing.
- World Wide Web use of one hour/day with signup.
Library External Services Program
The University of Hawai'i is committed to providing library
services to non-UH affiliated users such as business and industry, community
groups, as well as scholars and researchers from other educational institutions.
The Library External Services Program provides document delivery, material loans,
preservation and photographic services, deposit and research library card accounts
and customized research services on a cost-recovery basis. For a schedule of
fees, contact the Library External Services Program at 808-956-5956.
Special Note on Children's Use of the Libraries and Electronic Resources
Since the UHM Libraries collections and services are developed
for the support of UH students, faculty and staff, few juvenile materials will
be found here. Children should be accompanied at all times for their safety and
well being by a parent or adult. Children should never be left unsupervised.
Children under the age of 13 who are unaccompanied by an adult may be referred
to Campus Security. Parents, not the Library, are responsible for children's
use of the Libraries, including access to electronic resources and the Internet.
